This month of May, there are some very interesting announcements to make for both the IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Mencey and Mencey’s Cookery Classroom.

The Mencey Lounge events at the Iballa Cocktail Bar are back to Tenerife’s nights with many novelties. A privileged location, the best live music, varied cuisine, exotic cocktails and the best possible company. Mencey’s Lounge thematic nights start at 19.00 and finish around 23.30.

During this month, guests will enjoy themed tasting menus, such as the special menu Sushi & Gins and the Mexican themed night.

On Friday 8th May, guests will enjoy a sushi tasting together with a selection of macerated premium gins and tonics. Some of our favourites include Blue Ribbon & Fever tree with lime peel, strawberries and liquorice, Geranium & Abbondio with blackberries, juniper, cinnamon and lemon peel.

On Thursday the 21st May, the Iballa Cocktail Bar hosts a special themed night, an authentic Mexican evening! You will be able to enjoy the best Mexican dishes and snacks.

Bear in mind that every Saturday, starting at 11am, you can enjoy Mencey’s Appetizer on the terrace of the Iballa Cocktail Bar. The menu includes Iberian ham with bread and grated tomato, a selection of Canarian cheeses and figs and black pig on toast with caramelized onions and goat cheese.

Regarding the cooking courses, and after popular demand, the Cookery Classroom will offer the course “make your own bread at home.” The course will be held by Juan Carlos Bolanos and you will learn how to prepare the mother dough, learning different techniques, weighed, shaped and baked. This course is held on the Thursday 14th May between 17.30 and 20.30.

On Friday the 29th May, the Mencey’s Cookery Classroom will offer a “special antiox course“. Carlos Perez will be responsible to provide attendees with all the information regarding the benefits and secrets that you can obtain from smoothies and shakes.

The main news at Mencey’s Cookery Classroom for this coming month of November, is the celebration of the I Mencey Wine & Gourmet Wine Festival. IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Mencey constant commitment to the world of gastronomy is reflected in this wine festival, to be held the coming 22nd of November.

At the wine festival there will be represented more than 30 local, national and international wines, some with great prestige and tradition. There will also be room for lesser known wines, distinguished for their commitment to differentiation and for the quality of their wines. Along with the wines, attendees will also enjoy a selection of gourmet tapas, created by the Iballa Cocktail Bar.

Cooking courses at Mencey’s Cookery Classroom

The Iballa Cocktail Bar will also host, on Friday the 14th of November, starting at 19.30, a special night focused on “the best Latin American ceviches”. With recipes coming from Peru and Mexico, but will also include the traditional Canarian ceviche, a ceviche with “cherne”, red onion, apple, coconut and cilantro. All this coupled with pisco sour, cocktails, cava and wines and the best live music.

With respect to the cooking courses organized by Mencey’s Cookery Classroom, during this month two very interesting courses will be held, one is a special course on seasonal mushrooms, and the other is a special course on coffee.

The special course on season mushrooms will be held on the 19th of November, between 17.00h and 20.30h. The course will be led by Head Chef Miguel Barrera of the Anthelia IBEORSTAR Hotel, a mushroom expert and connoisseur. Those attending the course will discover the existing classes and types of mushrooms, their characteristics and how to cook them.

Regarding the special coffee course, it will be held on the 26th of November from 17.00 to 20.30h. This course will feature the expert barista Alberto Zurita and the attendees will discover the wide range of coffee varieties, the process and also, the new ways of enjoying coffee.

This month of May, the Mencey Lounge Season begins, in the Iballa Cocktail Bar, where the cuisine becomes especially important along with the live music.

The season starts on Friday May 2th with a barbecue and a tasting of Canary Islands cheese and omelettes. The dinner will be accompanied by a large variety of products and by a selection of the best white and red wines of the Island. The music is a must, and will be presented by the known DJ Sergio Le Canarien.

The next meeting will be on Friday May 16th. In this case, the dinner will consist of a barbecue with a tasting of different salads, a surprising salad bar and many more surprises. DJ David Manso will be in charge of the music.
