Escaldes-Engordany, in the heart of Andorra

Escaldes-Engordany is one of the seven parishes of the Andorra Principality. Leisure, relax and sport are the principal focus catching the interest of its visitors, and the thing is, this area meets all the characteristics that have placed Andorra as one of the main tourist destinations in Europe.

Escaldes-Engordany is the second parish with the largest population of the Principality, after Andorra la Vella, and has become the epicentre of the country thanks to its location and places of interest. It is composed of two important urban centres:  Escaldes and Engordany.

Shopping in Andorra

One of the attractions of this area is, clearly, its commercial tradition to which it owes its renown in the whole country. Crowds of shopping lovers visit Andorra every year, attracted by its good prices and products. It is very recommended to go to the Carlemany avenue, the most important commercial area of the Principality.

Escaldes is also known for its numerous spas and thermal waters, headed by the Caldea spa as the most important thermal-leisure centre.  Relaxing in one of its spas with its thermal waters, its facilities and its services is just a real pleasure that should be experienced by everyone at least once.

Termes Carlemany

And, of course, skiing has also a lead role in this place of Andorra.  Here are placed several stations such as Vallnord or Grandvalira, the biggest of the Pyrenees.

All these attractions make of Escaldes-Engordany a fantastic destination to blend skiing with relax in its spas and leisure in its commercial areas.

Costa Calma beach: the origin of the Jandia isthmus

Costa Calma is one of the most lovely and famous beaches of the south of Fuerteventura.  It is really special because it marks the origin of the isthmus that forms the Jandia Peninsula, it is a sandy area that belongs to the Pájara municipality, where you can find some of the best beach accommodations in Fuerteventura.

Just when you enter to the Jandia Peninsula, you find this wonderful beach considered by many -native and foreigners- to be the authentic heart of this tourist area of the south of Fuerteventura.  This beach has 1.3 km length and about 60 metres width, and is ideal for family holidays, since, despite being part of the Atlantic, the sea is always calm, without swell and limited depth.

Its excellent services have turned it into a very visited place, especially in high season.  The commercial and restaurants area is worth a visit, as well as a walk, since you can find in the surroundings smaller and very beautiful sand areas where you can peacefully  rest or make a picnic contemplating the sea.

If your hotel is in Jandia beach, next to the Morro Jable town, the Costa Calma beach can be reached in just 20 minutes drive, going across the seaboard, and accompanied during the trip by the incomparable natural park of Jandia.

Top tourist attractions in Malaga coast

When I think of holidays in Malaga, I inevitably imagine those marvellous beaches full of colours beautifying the city.  Torremolinos, Marbella, Torrox, Manilva, Fuengirola, Estepona, Benalmádena, Vélez-Málaga… All these places and municipalities form some of the most important tourist centres of this Andalusian province which has been forged based on light, sea and culture.

The most traditional holidays in the Malaga coast are those that you can find in Torremolinos, where Mediterranean lovers go year after year to enjoy a leisure time with the entire family.  Hotels in this locality of Malaga make up a really mixed offer, making very easy to find a hotel for families next toAqualand or a complete accommodation in front of Torremolinos beach.

The advantage of booking an accommodation in Torremolinos over other areas of Malaga, is that it is at one step from the city and just 10 minutes drive from the airport.  Another option is to opt for a hotel in the centre of Malaga, since in the city is everything: leisure activities for children, a wide agenda of cultural plans during the whole year, nightlife and beach. Besides, in the beaches of the Malaga city are placed some of the traditional kiosks which will delight the gastronomy lovers.

Very close to the Malaga city, towards Levante, we will find another classic of the coastal holidays in this province: Rincón de la Victoria, a cultural beach tourist area, very appreciated by nature lovers: hiking, golf, water sports and, in general, all kinds of activities in the open.  It has a very homely atmosphere and a very traditional cuisine, standing out the boquerones victorianos (Victorian anchovies).

Estepona is other interesting option, less crowded but with excellent services for families and long sand beaches.  The accommodation in Estepona also offers a wide versatility, sticking out especially the hotels in the area of El Paraiso specialised in gold, wellness and family holidays, very close to another relevant tourist area in Malaga: the glamorous Marbella.

Puerto Banús, San Pedro de Alcántara, The Golf Valley… All the environment of Marbella is just spectacular and really recommended for a getaway with you partner in any time of the year. Accommodations in this area are usually luxury resorts and hotels in Malagadedicated to the golf or to the equestrian sports, some of them are authentic architectural treasures and offer an experience that goes beyond the destination.

But for those who have a tight budget, by Estepona towards the southern part, is placed the Casares bay, another important tourist area of Costa del Sol.  It is a less jammed and more traditional tourist area.  Accommodation is varied and, in general, inexpensive.  Casares is one of the most beautiful towns of Malaga and offers the opportunity of living different holidays, enveloped by an aura of magic and history.

In the outskirts of Casares is located Manilva, a small tourist centre of Malaga where you can enjoy the most traditional oenology and cuisine: baked sardines and fried fish, sweet and fruity wines… All this mixed with a really impressive cultural heritage and dream beaches such as Cala Chullera and Las Arenas Beach.  The accommodation in this area of the Malaga coast is less varied than in other bigger places with more tourism tradition, but, even so, it is easy to find a good coastal hotel or a golf resort in the surroundings of the town.

Pinares de Cartaya, the Huelva route for athletes

The route going across Pinares de Cartaya, in the Huelva province, is one of the most famous for its excellent orography for extreme sports.  Scene of numerous competitions, as the recently celebrated XIII Marathon BTT, it offers spectacular spots which represent an unique added value for those who come to this area of Costa de la Luz in search of nature and sport holidays.

Pinares de Cartaya is an area of 29,600 acres where is placed the forest heritage of this municipality in the Huelva coast, mainly based on a Mediterranean forest where you can find the stone pine,  phoenicean Juniper, and the characteristic large-fruited Juniper, as well as examples of the Canary Island pine, holm oak, cork tree and bracken.

Benidorm IV Tapa and Pincho Competition

The IV Tapa and Pincho competition in Benidorm comes back. Since some years ago, this event enlivens restaurants, bars and coffee shops of the capital of Costa Blanca.

This year’s competition (the fourth) will take place from March 31 to April 6. During the whole week, public could taste the delicious tapas and pinchos made by a total of 27 establishments which take part in the competition.

This tapas and pinchos tour goes by restaurants, bars and pubs all over Benidorm. Each establishment offers a series of pinchos, among which you will find those taking part in the competition. You can taste them for 2€ each, and then vote for your favourite one.

The competition has three categories: Prize for most modern avant-garde tapa or pincho, Prize for most traditional tapa or pincho and special general public prize, as result of customers’ votes.

Those who want to vote for a tapa or pincho, could do it by whatsapp, SMS, or “liking” the tapa on the Facebook page of Turismo Benidorm.

This initiative began some years ago by the Benidorm´s Tourist Department to promote this tourist destination through the restaurants and bars of the city. The truth is that they are succeeding in it, because the competition receives more and more visitors each year willing to enjoy the best pinchos of Benidorm.
