Summer is a month to unwind, relax, forget about your preoccupations and enjoy a well deserved holiday. And there is no better place to enjoy the summer, the sea and the beach, nature and culture, and gastronomy, than the idyllic island of Tenerife. The restaurant and terrace Los Laureles has elaborated a new menu for this summer, where local products stand out, with an exotic touch, in combination with the influence of international cuisine. It has a great terrace from where to enjoy the famous Tenerife sunset. Open Monday to Sunday, from 19.30 to 23.00

Special “Mencey Lounge Night”

On Friday nights, on the 7th and 28th of August, the Grand Mencey hotel and restaurants celebrates a special Mencey Night Lounge. The first event will focus on “ceviches” and tartars, with a strong Latin influence in the menu. All accompanied by delicious cocktails, such as Pisco Sour, Cuban Mojitos or Mexican Margaritas.

On Friday the 28thof August will be an evening of barbecue, with succulent meats on the grill, such as marinated chicken with curry and yogurt, chutney or tuna steak from the Atlantic Ocean.

Both evenings will be enlivened by the best live music from 19.00 to 23.00. Limited tables available.

Spa Sensations

During the month of August, the Mencey Spa offers fantastic deals regarding health and beauty treatments. An example includes the 90 minutes in the Spa circuit, and a couples massage for only € 108 per couple.

Also, you can combine a day at the Spa with a gourmet meal, GatroSpa Gourmet, vegetarian GatroSpa, GatroSpa Vegan, for only 35€ per person.

October’s latest news from IBEROSTAR’s Grand Mencey hotel

This month of October is packed with news from the Mencey’s Cookery Classroom. Summer has come to an end, making way to an always melancholic autumn. However, there is no reason not to enjoy this time of year and the Iberostar Grand Mencey hotel and its Cookery Classroom, are the perfect place for it.

Begoña Rodrigo, the winner of the famous TV contest TOP CHEF 2013, will visit Mencey’s Cookery Clasroom to offer an exclusive cooking course. The event will take place on Friday the 10th of October, priced at 60€ per person. The chef and owner of the restaurant La Salita in Valencia, will delight attendees with a “gastroshow” where she will present exclusively some of the delicious dishes served at her restaurant.

Some of the popular dishes of this course, include rice plankton with octopus carpaccio and Mary aioli sauce, or the paratana with pigs trotters juice and sweet and sour vegetables. The wine pairing will include the wines from the Bodegas Masaveu, including wines such as the Fillaboa 2013 or the Murua gran Reserva.

However, the cooking courses of this iconic gourmet hotel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife don’t end here. On Thursday the 9th of October, led by Chef Richard Andrade, you’ll discover all the secrets of Japanese cuisine. One of the most demanded courses among those attending the previous courses of the Mencey’s Cookery Classroom was a whiskey tasting. September begins with in full glory at Mencey’s Cookery Classroom, after a summer filled with news and special nights in this idyllic setting. The IBEROSTAR Grand Mencey Hotel is one of the most prestigious gastronomic hotels, with a long gastronomic tradition in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Her cooking classes, many of which are gourmet courses in Tenerife with internationally renowned chefs offer you the chance to become a real chef for a few hours.

On Thursday the 18th of September, the first cooking course of the season was held, and was centred around the “hot and cold around Appetizers served around the table“. This cooking course is designed to surprise family and friends in our homes, with some extremely creative appetitive and appetizers, very easy to prepare, and will definitely delight our guests. Some of the recipes that will be prepared include a Smith ham roll, Caesar salad snack, cauliflower pure with a crispy prawns and red fruits sauce.

On Friday 26th of September, the nights of the Mencey Lounge will surprise you with a delicious sushi and a wide selection of hot and cold snacks. The selection of tapas will be paired with local and national wines, and of course, the delicious and exotic cocktails from our bar.

One final announcement to make, the following month of October there will be a special guest, Begoña Rodriguez, the winner of the TV show Top Chef 2013. Guests will be able to enjoy a degustation menu with many surprises…


The Majorcan hotel chain Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is organising, as part of their commitment to offer their guests unique experiences, a gastronomic cycle with the best known female chefs in Spain called “Women with a Star”. The venue chosen for this gastronomic event is the island of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in one of  the most spectacular hotels of the chain, the Iberostar Grand Mencey Hotel.

This initiative is part of the many proposals already offered by the hotel and its Cookery Classroom, managed by the Canarian Chef Juan Carlos Clemente. Without a doubt, the Grand Mencey is a reference for gastronomic hotels in Tenerife. At the same time, the hotel also has 3 other restaurants and 3 bars, considered as some of the best restaurants in Tenerife.

This gastronomic cycle was inaugurated the 7th of September, featuring the Galician chef Beatriz Sotelo, from the restaurant A Estacion, with a Michelin Star. The Master Class aimed to  bring the world of haute cuisine to Tenerife, as well as some of the most emblematic dishes of this restaurant located in the old railway station of Cambre, Galicia.

The mont of October is reserved for the Majorcan chef Macarena de Castro, from the restaurant Jardin in Alcudia, Majorca. The Master Class of this Michelin Star chef will be held under the title “Pure Mediterranean Sea”. On Saturday 26th of October, starting at 11.30, the attendees will enjoy the cooking class of this renowned chef and will then be able to enjoy a degustation menu, including a wine pairing.

The cycle of “Women with a Star” is open to the public and can reservations can be made through the website of the restaurant La Cocina del Mencey. Places are limited, and due to the great success of the previous event, we recommend you book in advance. This gastronomic cycle aims to bring the world of fine dinning restaurants to Tenerife.
